This fall, our partner the Fulbright Association held its 47th conference, exploring the timely theme “the World at a Crossroads.” Embodying the Fulbright mission, the conferences of this US Fulbright alumni organization underscore the extraordinary potential of Fulbright alumni to shape a world built on understanding, empathy, innovation and collaboration.
Since the pandemic, the format of Association conferences has been hybrid, allowing participants from around the world to join in and enhancing the conference’s diversity and reach. This year’s in-person conference in Washington, DC emphasized small-group engagement to foster direct exchanges and networking; it featured interactive roundtable discussions and poster sessions on topics from “Cultural Sensitivity in Social Media” to “Revitalizing Language Learning for International Relations.” The virtual conference emphasized the pressing decisions shaping our world today through four plenary panels, focusing on Elections & Politics, Energy & Environment, Education & Technology and Security & Diplomacy.
Roth Foundation Board member Stephanie Hallock attended this year’s in-person sessions in Washington DC. When we asked her what she likes best about Fulbright Association conferences, she explained:
I consider the Fulbright Association conference to be the best professional event I attend regularly, in part because it is multidisciplinary. We all come from very different personal and professional backgrounds; but everyone shares in common a passion for learning and sharing things about the world around us. Participants are eager to engage with one another, and we continue conversations and collaborations long after the conference has ended.
Like the Fulbright Association, the Roth Foundation works to further the reach of the Fulbright program through its Fulbright & Academic Collaborations. Our Project Support program, in particular, is designed to enhance and extend the work of Fulbrighters on exchanges around the world.
We want to send a big holiday THANK YOU to the board and jury members who work on all our programs … and, of course, to our faithful donors who make everything we do possible!
